Hilti Art Foundation is a cultural institution in Liechtenstein dedicated to making art from Classical Modernism to the present accessible to the public. Studio René Bieder developed a custom typeface that reflects the foundation’s commitment to clarity, precision, and timeless quality.

Commissioned by HLZ, the custom typeface is based on Neue Rational and was carefully refined to become the foundation of the Hilti Art Foundation’s new visual identity. Thoughtful modifications introduced a more distinctive character while preserving the functional clarity of the original design.

The typeface was structurally refined and typographically tightened, introducing a more focused tone throughout. Formal adjustments emphasized clarity and consistency, while a functional, modernist layer was added—lending the typeface a calm authority aligned with the institution’s architectural and curatorial language.

HAF Rational is available in ten styles: five uprights and five matching italics. This range allows for nuanced typographic hierarchies while maintaining a consistent visual tone across digital and physical applications.
