The Hilti Art Foundation is a cultural institution based in Liechtenstein, dedicated to making art from the Classical Modern period to the present accessible to all. Its visual identity reflects clarity, precision, and a deep commitment to art as a public value.
Commissioned by HLZ, the project centered on modifying an existing typeface from the studio’s library. Based on Neue Rational, the custom version was carefully adapted to serve as the foundation of the new visual identity—combining functional clarity with a distinct typographic voice.
The typeface was structurally refined and typographically tightened, introducing a more focused tone throughout. Formal adjustments emphasized clarity and consistency, while a functional, modernist layer was added—lending the typeface a calm authority aligned with the institution’s architectural and curatorial language.
HAF Rational is available in ten styles: five uprights and five matching italics. This range allows for nuanced typographic hierarchies while maintaining a consistent visual tone across digital and physical applications.
